What is considered a reasonable accommodation period for pregnant or parenting students?

A reasonable accommodation depends on the health of the mother and the child during pregnancy as well as after birth. An academic accommodation period is justified for as long a period of time as deemed medically necessary by the student’s physician. For more information, see TAMU System Regulation 07.1.10.

The Grad School recommends an employment accommodation period of up to 6 weeks. If needed, Texas’s Parental Leave Act allows mothers and fathers to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave beginning on the day of birth or day of foster placement.
