Howdy!
I'm Hannah Payne, your Graduate and Professional Student Body President. On behalf of the Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG), I'm excited to extend a warm welcome to the fall semester to approximately 4,000 new and 12,000 returning Aggie graduate and professional students.
Let me introduce myself: I'm pursuing a master's in public health, and I've been a part of this wonderful institution for six years now. My commitment to GPSG service stems from a deep belief in the power of collaborative efforts to enhance the graduate and professional student experience.
To our new students, I want to express my sincere congratulations on joining our esteemed community. By choosing Texas A&M, you've demonstrated your dedication to academic excellence and a hunger for knowledge. Your unique talents and perspectives will undoubtedly enrich our campus, and I'm thrilled to have you as part of the Aggie family. At Texas A&M, we uphold the values of collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity. As graduate students, you're integral to driving our university's research, teaching and service missions. Whether you're diving into pioneering research or engaging in interdisciplinary projects, your contributions will leave an indelible mark on our institution and the world beyond.
For both new and returning students, seize the incredible opportunities in front of you! Immerse yourself in the time-honored traditions and the spirited atmosphere that define the Aggie experience. Join the Graduate Student Government, participate in Grad Camp, connect with student organizations, and take advantage of the vast resources that support your success and the professional development programs that foster lifelong connections and personal growth.
Remember that your voice matters. As your Student Body President, I'm here to listen to your thoughts, concerns, and aspirations. Reach out to me or the GPSG without hesitation if you have any questions or feedback. Our goal is to support you and ensure your time at Texas A&M is fulfilling and memorable.
As the academic year unfolds, I wish you all the best in your pursuits. Remember, you're not alone — the GPSG's doors are always open.

Community Spotlight
August Commencement: Congratulations to over 200 Aggie master's and doctoral graduates who walked the stage at the Summer 2023 commencement ceremony! See photos from the ceremony and read about the Harmons, an inspiring couple who graduated with their PhDs while raising four kids. We look forward to seeing what our August '23 grads accomplish with their new degrees!
New Graduate Student Orientation: The Graduate and Professional School welcomed new students to campus at two NGSO sessions the week before classes started. Students had the opportunity to explore student organizations, learn about campus resources, and hear from student and faculty panelists. Thank you to our volunteers, speakers, and students for another successful orientation! In case you missed it, see the NGSO highlights and access more resources in the knowledge center.

Graduate Mentoring Academy: The Graduate Mentoring Academy provides graduate research mentoring development opportunities for faculty and graduate and professional students to improve their mentor and mentee skills and to promote a culture of mentoring at Texas A&M. Graduate Student Career Center Services: The Career Center offers services specifically for graduate and professional students such as career fairs, workshops, and employer events. Check out the Graduate Student Career Services eNewsletter:
Graduate Student Professional Development in Teaching (GSPDT): The Center for Teaching Excellence collaborates with the Grad School to present workshops for students interested in teaching. Workshops focus on areas like encouraging classroom discussion, promoting open-mindedness, and teaching philosophy. To learn more and register, click here:

Academic Deadlines
Stay up-to-date! Visit the Grad School Calendar, the Grad School's Dates & Deadlines information page, International Student and Scholar Services Important Dates, and the University Academic Calendar for information about upcoming dates and deadlines like the ones listed below.
9/22: Last day to apply for degrees to be awarded in December without a late fee.
10/2: Last day or 10 working days prior to the examination, whichever comes first, for the Grad School to receive completed “Final Exam Request” in ARCS.
10/2: Last day for the Graduate and Professional School to receive completed “Request for Exemption from Final Examination” in ARCS.

ARCS Launch: The new Academic Requirements Completion System (ARCS) is live as of September 1. Master's and doctoral students with approved degree plans will manage form and request submissions related to degree milestones in ARCS. For information or user guides, visit the Grad School ARCS webpage.
Three Minute Thesis (3MT): This year's Three Minute Thesis preliminary competition takes place on Thursday and Friday, October 19 and 20. The finals will be Friday, November 3, in Rudder Forum. Sign up now to vie for research presentation supremacy! Development sessions begin this month! Visit our 2023-2024 3MT Webpage to learn more!
Graduate Community Tailgate: Mark your calendars for the annual Graduate Community Tailgate on November 18, 2023, in Aggie Park. Join us for food and beverages before the final Aggie home game vs. Abilene Christian. More information to come!

Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition
3MT is Texas A&M's premier research presentation competition. Competitors get just three minutes to explain their research to a general audience, using just one slide. Last year, Chih-Shen Cheng earned top honors and took the 3MT Winners' Cup home to his department: Civil and Environmental Engineering. Who will earn bragging rights this year?

Wellness Corner
CAPS Student Workshops: September is National Suicide Awareness Month. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is hosting a month of programming on suicide awareness and prevention. In addition CAPS offers services specifically designed for graduate students, including workshops focused mental health challenges such as stress management and self-compassion. Student Recreation Centers: Grad students are eligible for Rec Sports memberships! Visit any one of the recreation centers on campus to work out, swim, rock climb, and more. Are you passionate about a sport and want to connect with other students? Join an intramural sports team! Outdoor equipment, such as yard games and camping gear, is available for rental through Outdoor Adventures. Get active and stay healthy this semester with Rec Sports!

Grad Advisor Workshop: Graduate advisors, faculty, and staff are invited to the Grad Advisor Workshop on September 21. Information on the new Academic Requirements Completion System (ARCS) and discussions on graduate studies issues will be led by the Graduate and Professional School. We hope to see you there!
