Overview

The Master of Arts in Performance Studies at Texas A&M explores performance as both an object of study and a method of research across cultures and contexts. Students examine performance in theater, music, media, ritual, politics, and everyday life while integrating theory and practice. The program offers three tracks—Thesis, Performance & Portfolio, and Comprehensive Examination—allowing students to tailor their degree toward scholarly research, creative practice, or broad field preparation.

Why Texas A&M?

Texas A&M’s Performance Studies program combines interdisciplinary scholarship with hands‑on creative inquiry within a major research university. Students work closely with faculty mentors, engage in small seminars, and access state‑of‑the‑art facilities for performance and research. With strong pathways to cultural organizations, creative industries, and doctoral study—and the global Aggie Network supporting graduates—Texas A&M prepares students to make meaningful impact through performance. Our program prepares students for careers in cultural institutions (museums, theatre companies, intercultural industries (tourism, cultural exchange), media and marketing (art criticism, corporate communications), arts administration and production. Many also go on to top Ph.D. programs nationwide.
