I had a blast around town last weekend! Did you guys go to First Friday? I thoroughly enjoyed Brice and the Lonesome Strings at the Palace Theater, and it seemed like half the city was out dancing at the Grand Stafford with Midnight Express – the crowd went nuts when they played Rosanna.

This week’s a bit slower, but there are some great events at the library, sweet date night ideas, and a few activities for the prospective athlete (…not me).

Thursday, July 13

• Coloring for Adults at Larry J. Ringer Library, 5:30 – 7:00 pm Free
  All adults 18 years and up are invited to come relax and color at the library. Snacks and all supplies will be provided.


• Date Night Skate Night at Spirit Ice Arena (400 Holleman Drive), 8:00 – 10:00 pm Tickets: $14.50 plus tax per couple
  Every Thursday night Spirit Ice Arena has a two-for-one entry special; buddy up and go skate!
   

Friday, July 14

• South Brazos County Farmers' Friday Market at 700 Scott and White Dr., 12:00 – 5:30 pm This farmer’s market offers a variety of fresh produce and homemade goods, including pet treats! I’m fostering a particularly stubborn pup right now, so if the pet treats are any good, let me know – maybe I can finally get him to roll over!


• Summer Nights Concert Series: Cody Bryan Band at Lake Walk Town Center, 6:30 – 9:30 pm Free
  The Cody Bryan Band will go on stage around 8:00 pm, but you and your lawn chair can arrive as soon as 6:30 to purchase food and drinks.

• The Rock-A-Fellas: Live at the Lakeside Icehouse at Lake Bryan, 8:00 – 11:00 pm : $8.38 (General Admission) or $10.49 (Reserved seating) The Rock-A-Fellas bill themselves as a cover band playing music “from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and beyond, all rolled into one big tasty musical casserole”. Fun fact: After some incredible sleuthing, I realized that the guitarist and vocalist for the band, Heath Allyn, is also in the band Midnight Express, which played at the Grand Stafford last week for First Friday. And by incredible sleuthing, I just recognized his truly majestic hair from when I went to see Midnight Express. Anyways – I had a LOT of fun at Midnight Express – everyone was dancing like crazy, so if this cover band is anything like that, I’m sure it’ll be worth the cover charge.

• Atlas Triathlon Training Clinic # 1 - Training Programming and Swim Practice at Lake Walk Town Center, 8:00 – 10:00 am Tickets: $15 For our more athletic readers: the first clinic “will focus on training methods, programming, and open water swim practice”, led by multi-sport coach Daren Endsley. Endsley offers a “more adaptive approach to training than conventional endurance programs.”

Sunday, July 16

• Master Yakiniku Profit Share and Car Wash to benefit Urgent Animals of Hearne at 3700 S. Texas Ave #900, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm I foster a pup for Urgent Animals of Hearne, so while this technically isn’t a free event, I just wanted to let you know that if you are going to eat out and/or are in need of a carwash this weekend, consider joining the organization at this event. Cute animals will be there!


• Family Movie: Beauty and the Beast 2017 at Larry J. Ringer Library, 2:00 – 4:00 pm
  Free
  Did you miss the live-action Beauty and the Beast when it was in theaters? I didn’t, and let me tell you, there is a stellar scene where Emma Watson gets beaned in the face with a snowball. Kind of made the movie for me, to be honest. Go see for yourself on Sunday afternoon!
