Soccer Fun for Summer
The FIFA Women’s World Cup is right now underway in France, and I’m sure many of you are following the U.S. Women’s National Team. After all the women’s team are multiple World Cup and Olympic Games winners, and their games are always such an exciting one to watch. While I am a soccer fan myself, I don’t usually have the luxury and time to travel to the actually host cities to follow international tournaments in person. When I tell people that I’m a graduate student studying English, the two most common reactions are:
1. “Oh no, I’d better watch what I say around you! I’m not very good at grammar,” or
2. “That’s admirable. People these days don’t know how to speak English correctly… [cue rant about millennials using improper grammar]”
