Texas A&M encourages graduate students to apply external fellowships. To ensure that full funding packages are competitive with top graduate funding, we offer supplemental (or top off) funding through the Graduate Recruitment, Enhancement and Travel (GREAT) Program.
Supplemental Funding for External National Fellowships through the Graduate Recruitment, Enhancement and Travel (GREAT) Program
To attract high-achieving graduate students to our graduate and professional programs, Texas A&M’s Graduate Recruitment, Enhancement and Travel (GREAT) Program supplements external fellowships and federal training grants, and covers travel expenses for qualified prospective students with external fellowships to visit our campus.
External Fellowships Processed by the Graduate and Professional School
Some external fellowships are processed directly by the Graduate and Professional School. You apply. If you are awarded the fellowship, funds are processed by the Graduate and Professional School.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) offers fellowships covering scientific research in a variety of disciplines. NSF funding constitutes nearly one-fourth of federal financial assistance to academic institutions. Learn more at https://new.nsf.gov/funding/opportunities.
The GEM Fellowship Program offers graduate students in STEM fields financial support, internships, and access to top universities and industry partners to advance their academic and professional goals. Visit the GEM Fellowship Program website for more info.
Recognizing that U.S. citizens make up less than 50% of doctorate recipients in economics, computer science, engineering and math, the Graduate Fellowships for STEM Diversity aims to support American citizens in pursuit of graduate degrees in STEM fields. Funded by the Chancellor of the Texas A&M University System, the Chancellor’s National Academy STEM Ph.D. Fellowship Program is for outstanding master's level and undergraduate students working in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. The goal of this fellowship program is to attract more of the nation’s top students to Texas A&M University and team them with a national academy member and a rising star faculty member. Collaboration between students, national academy members and rising star faculty is a signature component of this program. Featured Externally-Facilitated Fellowships
This national fellowship provides funding from the U.S. Department of State for graduate students to pursue research, study, and teaching opportunities abroad. The Graduate & Professional School assists in the application process. Learn more by visiting the Fulbright website.
Research must be related to developing and/or enhancing drinking water supplies and water resources in general. Research topics may include new treatment technologies; improvements to existing treatment and management technologies; sustainability issues, including water/energy nexus; water policy and regulation; and natural resource economics. Research must be related to the advancement of membrane technology in the water, wastewater, or water reuse industries, and must be consistent with AMTA’s mission to solve water supply and quality issues through the widespread application of membrane technology. Research topics may include membrane bioreactors (MBRs), fouling and scaling control, efficiency (removal, recovery, energy use, pretreatment processes, and membrane materials. The student must be enrolled at an accredited college or university in Southern California. Research must address the critical need to remove or reduce salts from water supplies, and to preserve water resources in Southern California.
