March 2023 eNewsletter
Howdy!
Happy March, graduate and professional community! I'm Dr. Morgan Schweller, the Graduate and Professional School’s Professional Development (PD) Coordinator. It’s my job to create programming to give graduate and professional students opportunities to develop skills outside of the classroom, library or lab that will help them successfully complete their degree programs and prepare them for professional careers. We hope that students will take advantage of these opportunities as well as participate in the G.R.A.D. Aggies Professional Development Certificate program, which will help them highlight their PD efforts on their CV/resume.
This month, we have several enriching professional development opportunities to strengthen the connections in our graduate and professional community and prepare our students for their next steps in their career. These include:
- NEW G.R.A.D. Aggies Professional Development Symposium: The G.R.A.D. Aggies program will be hosting its first Professional Development Symposium on Friday, March 10th, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the MSC. Earn a G.R.A.D. Aggies PD Certificate by attending 6 of the 12 sessions being offered. To learn more, click here.
- Graduate and Professional Student Career Panels: The Career Center will offer 4 virtual career panels during March. Come hear professionals from a variety of disciplines share their career paths, current positions, opportunities, and advice. Please register in advance to receive their biographies and submit your questions for the panel!
March 2nd - Data Science, Machine Learning & AI
March 9th - Biotechnology
March 23rd - Advocacy, Mediation, & Policy

- Graduate Community of Scholars: Dinner & Dialogue: Join the graduate and professional community of students, staff and faculty for an amazing discussion and networking opportunity focused on this year’s theme — Outspoken: Leading with Our Aggie Voices. - Teaching As Research Fellows Info Session: On March 9th, join us to learn more about how to conduct research projects on teaching and learning in collaboration with a faculty mentor. Graduate student fellows can receive up to a $1,000 stipend during the program. Click here to learn more.
- Student Research Week: The March 8 deadline to register for Student Research Week is fast approaching. Please consider competing, judging or volunteering for the largest student-run research symposium in the nation. Visit https://srw.tamu.edu/ for more information.
At its core professional development is about unlocking OPPORTUNITY. Graduate school is an opportunity for you to grow, intellectually and professionally, through classes, through research, and through professional development to help you achieve your goals. We hope to see you take advantage of some of these opportunities this month and beyond.
Sincerely,
Dr. Morgan Schweller
