On-Campus Fitness Classes: WORTH IT teaser image
Many students want to avoid the Freshman 15…

or Senior 17…

or Grad School 20…

Like most universities, Texas A&M offers many healthy options for students to help them stay physically, mentally and emotionally fit during their time on campus.  At the Student Rec Center, students can purchase an Unlimited Semester Pass for $60. This pass allows students to attend as many Group RecXercise fitness classes as they please throughout the semester.

Okay, cool. Group classes you can go to with your roommate. Got it.

These classes, however, are not just boring exercise classes. The Rec offers different types of YOGA, like Sunrise Yoga or TGIF Yoga. There are PILATES classes and ZUMBA options. My favorite workout is SPIN – and the Rec offers so many different options, including Spin Express, Cycle 6 Pack, and Sunday Spin. There is KICKBOXING and BODY BLASTER and CARDIO WATER.

Alright. So, there are a million classes to choose from. That sounds pretty cool.

It gets better. These classes are actually really good. I’ve taken spin classes at the fancy studios that require bike reservations and shoe rentals. I loved them. But as a grad student, I am working to save a little more and spend a little less. The RecXercise classes allow me to do so! I enjoy these classes just as much as the expensive ones I’ve enrolled in before. I get a killer workout, sweat out my daily stress, and get all the endorphins flowing! I walk (or sometimes stumble) out of my workouts drenched in sweat.

Wow. The classes are pretty good too. Whoop!

Think back to the cost now. You can pay $60 (or $50 if you go at the very beginning of the semester) for unlimited access to group fitness classes. You’re already paying for the Rec Center in your student fees; why not enjoy your time there? Many of the fancy places charge at least $300 for a semester, usually more! While these fitness companies may be a perfect fit for some people, the RecXercise program is an affordable fit for most people! The instructors are trained by the Rec staff and they coach you through your workout and even provide ideas for other fitness routines you might want to do in your spare time.

Okay. I’m game. Where do I sign up?

You can purchase your Unlimited Semester Pass at the front desk of the Student Rec Center! If you want to try out a few classes before you sign up for a pass, you can purchase a $5 class pass and try a spin workout or a kickboxing class for yourself!

Get up and try one of the classes today. I promise you won’t regret it!
