Spring Break is quickly approaching, and I cannot help but feel the excitement that comes with this time of year. I am a huge fan of the winter, but there is always something so refreshing about the coming of spring. With this in mind, if you are looking for a quick weekend getaway from College Station (or wherever you may be), I would urge you to add Dallas to the list. I grew up in this city, moved away and came back as an adult. I fell in love with Dallas all over again. Whether you’re here for the day, or here for the weekend, here are a few of my favorite things to do.
 
The Dallas Arboretum
I am not even going to pretend this doesn’t top my list. From the beautiful spring tulips, the fall pumpkins, the lake in the background or the wonderful children’s garden, the arboretum is what dreams are made of.  If you are able to visit this time of year, you will see the spring blooms, a garden full of color, life and fun. Enjoy your day at the Dallas Arboretum by walking around and catching lunch, booking a tea sitting or attending their food and wine festival. Whatever you decide to do, you will certainly not regret adding this to your list.
 
Fort Worth
While you’re in the area, you might as well make the drive over to Fort Worth to get a taste of the stockyards. Fort Worth is home to the famous Billy Bob’s Texas as well as a great variety of places to eat, hang out and things to do. I highly recommend stopping at Joe T. Garcia’s and catching lunch or dinner on their wonderful patio. While you’re there, hop on down to the stockyards to walk around for the afternoon. After walking around in the heat, grab some ice cream at Melt. There are ample places to see and things to do in this area and this city. Definitely don’t miss a rooftop in Downtown Fort Worth as this time of year is generally nice, and really, who wouldn’t want to end a day catching a sunset on the rooftop?
 
Trinity Groves
When you find yourself back in Dallas, you don’t want to miss an evening at Trinity Groves. You have so many food options here that everyone can find something that they like. I, personally, love Amberjax Fish Market Grille as well as The Cake Bar. Eating at those two places would be my ideal date night 80% of the time. When you finish eating, there are plenty of places to enjoy the evening with friends, or you can walk over to Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge to catch a great view of downtown.
 
Klyde Warren Park
Kylde Warren Park is a great place to get the benefits of being in a big city while relaxing in the park. Klyde Warren Park is elevated right above Woodall Rogers Freeway in the middle of the city. The streets are typically lined with food trucks, so it is a perfect place to grab lunch. There are many museums within walking distance to Klyde Warren as well, so when you are ready to go enjoy some art, sculptures or history, just seek out a museum on your map and head that way.
 
 
Trinity Tree Tops Adventure Park
If you are looking for a little adventure while you are up this way, Trinity Tree Tops Adventure Park is the place to go. Located a short drive south of the city, you will find a self-guided ropes course that would be a perfect date spot or fun to do with friends. You go through a quick but thorough safety training and then are given a couple of hours to complete the courses. This is adventurous, thrilling and most importantly just plain fun.
 
If you find yourself headed up to DFW, I hope that you find these suggestions helpful and an enjoyable way to spend some time in the city. These are a few of my favorite spots, but Dallas is full of an endless supply of things to do, places to eat and entertainment. Located within driving distance to College Station, DFW is a great place to spend a day, a weekend or make it your week-long destination for spring break.
