Summer Vacation teaser image
Today I turned in my first final which tells me that summer is just around the corner. While it may not feel quite like summer yet, it will definitely be arriving soon. With summer so close all I can think about is what I am going to be doing with my free time. I was born and raised in Texas and I still haven’t seen all that it has to offer. Whether you are looking for a weekend away or a long road trip, there is so many things to do and see. With that in mind, here is my list of things to do or see if you’re spending your summer in the Lone Star State.

Marfa, Texas
I have been dying to go to Marfa for a few years. This is a town in far west Texas known for being an arts haven in the middle of the desert. It is about an 8-hour drive from College Station, but with a long enough weekend, would be totally worth it. There are some really unique things to do in Marfa such as view the art exhibits, both inside and outside, camp in a safari tent, and hopefully catch a glimpse of the Marfa lights.

Fredericksburg, Texas
Whether you are craving German food, searching for the perfect winery or wanting some outdoor adventure, this is the place for you. Fredericksburg is nestled in the Texas hill country about a 3-hour drive from College Station. My favorite part of visiting this town was stopping at Enchanted Rock and climbing to the top for an incredible view. Be prepared for a little hike, but nothing I couldn’t handle when we went. This is a great place to put down the books and go visit for the weekend.

Austin, Texas
Austin obviously had to make the list of things to do. There are just so many options and so many trendy places to go. The biggest appeal for the summer is all the water adventures available in the city. Barton Springs and Hamilton Pool are two wonderful places to go cool off in the Texas heat. Austin would make a great short trip as it is a little under 2 hours away. Don’t forget to climb Mount Bonnell while you are in town and catch some awesome views.

Granbury, Texas
The last place on my list is Granbury. Granbury is a quaint town with a lot of character. You can stay at a haunted hotel, go fishing on the lake or explore the town square. It is a great place to getaway and experience that small-town charm. It is located about 3 hours from College Station which makes a great long weekend trip. Go with friends, family or your significant other and let this town win your heart.

Texas is an amazing state with lots to do. Don’t get stuck inside working all summer and forget to explore. Get out, enjoy the fresh, Texas heat and discover all that this state has to offer.

Aggieland - Lessons and Gratitude

I came to Texas A&M as an international student, but I will leave as part of something much greater - the Aggie family. That is something that cannot be fully described in words, but felt in every action, connection, and step I take toward a brighter future.
