Mandate to Cover Tuition and Fees for PhD GATs, GARs, AND GALs

Texas A&M mandates that financial support for Ph.D. students employed in Graduate Assistant-Teaching (GAT), Graduate Assistant-Research (GAR), and Graduate Assistant-Lecturer (GAL) titles includes the coverage of resident tuition and all required university and college fees. This applies for all Texas A&M University and Texas A&M University at Galveston Ph.D. students sourced from any account or award of Texas A&M University or Texas A&M Agency. Payment of tuition and required fees for Ph.D. Graduate Assistant-Non Teaching (GANTs) is optional and to be determined by the employing college/school or unit.

The mandate applies to Ph.D. students admitted without an approved master’s degree at least through their 5th year of study. Ph.D. students admitted with an approved master’s degree are eligible at least through their 4th year of study.
