The Hidden Gem On-Campus - Rosenthal Meat Center at Texas A&M University teaser image
Howdy!

When I moved from Minnesota to Texas A&M in August of 2016 it was just my second time visiting campus. In the early part of the school year, I asked around to see if there was a dairy building that sold ice cream on campus. The more students and staff I asked, the more it felt like I was asking the wrong question. No one had a clue what I was talking about. Luckily, during a leadership coach training session for The Maroon and White Leadership Program I met Wes Osburn. Wes is an Associate Professor in Meat Science and the Associate Head for Academic Programs. I asked Wes the same question, and found out instead of a dairy building there is a meat center that sells meat. The meat is cut and packaged by students. This center is called the Rosenthal Meat Center. One can easily find the Rosenthal Meat Center across from Reed Arena in lot 74 on Olsen Blvd.

The reason I would like more students, especially graduate and professional students to know about Rosenthal is because of the high quality products that the students are producing. It is a bi product of fellow Aggies. Similarly, to student athletes competing in sports, meat science students are working to master their craft and I must say they have mastered the craft of making some mean beef jerky. However, beef jerky is not the only product that will satisfy your taste buds. They make everything from pre-smoked pork chops, to t-bone steaks, to thick cut bacon all at affordable prices. My favorite product right now is the sausage wrap. If you need a quick lunch while on west campus head over to Rosenthal for $2.50 sausage wrap. Until next time, this Minnesotan trying to figure out Texas needs to take some time to digest.

Take care,

Resisting the Hustle

After talking with seasoned graduate students in my department, I see that most of us carry a sense of urgency regardless of where we are in the program. I was working inefficiently by pushing myself past my wall of productivity to prove to myself that I was working hard to earn my keep. However, after digging a little deeper into the colloquial understanding of the hustle, I see where my rigidly negative view of hustling hindered my ability to make peace with myself.
