2013 Report of the Teaching Assistant Training Requirement Task Force

The TA Training Task Force met on multiple occasions during the Spring Semester of 2013. The group was given the following charge:

  • Review:
    • Past history of mandate
    • Current efforts
    • Historical evaluation and attendance data for Teaching Assistant Training and Evaluation Program (TATEP)
    • Report from CTE
    • Approved alternative training.
    • TA training programs at peer institutions
  • Determine current TA training needs
  • Provide recommendations for TA training: mandate or optional, scope of training, levels, etc.

Texas A&M Graduate Students Attend Science and Public Policy Workshop in Washington, D.C.  

Four Texas A&M doctoral students were selected to travel to the nation’s capital for a professional development workshop on science and public policy. Serina DeSalvio (Genetics & Genomics), Dallas Freitas (Chemistry), Alaya Keane (Ecology & Conservation Biology) and Molly McClung (Biomedical Sciences) attended the Catalyzing Advocacy in Science and Engineering (CASE) annually-held event, hosted by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, from April 14-17.
